Hi Guys,
I'd just like to announce a project we are working on called "The Adventures Of Jim Sidelong - Marooned".
We are developing the game using the Visionaire (www.visionaire2d.net) engine to enable us to produce a game using high-resolution (1024x768) 3d rendered imagery.

Check out our new website at www.maroonedgame.com

We would love to hear any feedback (good or bad)...

Granted theres not much content to show you at the moment - but we are beavering away hoping to get a demo out before XMAS 2004 (although it'll more than likely be Q2 2005).

Many thanks,
Kevin

Well, the site itself looks very good and professional. Some screenshots would be nice, though Wink

Are your characters going to be 3D models? I really like the dude with the beard, who's featuring on your site.

Looking forward to learn more about this game. Keep up the good work!

thanks for the support. its always good to get somebody elses opinion on our work. Cheesy

Absolutely everything in the game (well apart from the text...) will be rendered in 3D. FXFreak has spent a lot of time trying to make his 3D art look 2D without the oh-so-commonly used "toon-shading" style. I think he has done a great job - check out the wallpapers on the site to see for yourself  Wink

Theres a handful of concept art on this thread:

We'll try to keep everybody informed on progess.

That looks awesome! Are these 100% 3D models or have they been edited afterwards, to enhance the 2D look?

And you say you don't use cel shading techniques?

This surely is an interesting project I'll eagerly follow.  Smiley

I got Stu to write a little explanation of his process:

Quote
It's 100% 3D, but I render out all the elements seperately, so shadows, highlights, reflections, depth and fog are seperate images, then I compile them back up in Photoshop, so I can manipulate each element, applying filters, altering brightness, contrast, adding colour, that sort of thing, then it all gets flattened, then a few more filters are added.

He then added:
Quote
I'm still playing around, trying to find the right look...

Although... personally I think he has nailed it already! Smiley
