Has anyone played around with particle systems in Flash / Actionscript?  I'm interested in doing the twinkling stars effect you get in some games to highlight an area.

I haven't.  I think it's a good idea though.  It's little things like that which make a game feel more polished, like the latest article I posted mentioned.  I haven't done much of that kind of thing in the past, but may give it a try in the future.

Does anyone know anything about the Flint Particle System?  Every particle seems to be a display object - I would have thought that was a little heavyweight.

I don't know anything about it.  I checked and the samples run pretty good on my computer.  I think it would probably be more versatile if it's a display object.  I might keep it in mind if I ever get past doing simple things with my game. Grin  I'm still taking a break, but I'm seriously thinking about maybe getting started again.
