We have a pair of black birds that nest regular in next doors garden, its really quite cool to watch mummy n daddy as they work as a team, the mum is unbelievably loud!
Sadly this years chick didn't make it, a week last Sunday it was rather obvious the chick had fallen out of the nest, mum and dad where fantic trying to find it but we found it dead by the back gate Monday morning, a cat must of dropped it as it jumped over the gate.
Last year the mum bird was giving our cat a good talking to, the cat was sat on the step and the bird was less than 8 feet away giving him a lot of verbal lol, luckily for her I guess he's getting on a bit and chasing birds is pretty low on his priority list lol
We have a robin that comes every year which is nice to see, also rabbits and hedgehogs and the odd fox now and again.
We live on the edge of town so some so we do get some small wildlife
there was a cool program on the discovery channel about bee's, dunno how they managed it but they got a tracker onto a scout bee and filmed the process of a colony choosing a new home, shame they picked some poor buggers motor home lol The little bee found a spot, did some messurements and went back, returned with some workers who sized the space up, had a meeting then reported back to base, pretty amazing these things are more orginized than the uk government lol

Cats hunt for sport and can be cruel if they do catch something, our dog on the other hand makes so much noise and gets so wound up she couldn't catch anything.
The only time I've seen the dog in stealth mode is when she gets it into her head she NEEDS to have a pop at the cat, you can see it coming 1/2 an hour before it actually happens, I think at some point in her early life the cat pointed out who was boss but now he's flagging, she's not getting any younger, she's 10 and he's about 12.
Got to laff, but the silly dog is sat watching the gate as I type lol

House cats are amazing hunters in their prime. I've seen one catch a bird in mid-air over a stairwell. It was this perfect leap at lightning speed. Just watching a cat walk is amazing for me because it's so fluid. Yeah, nature is cruel but one thing feeds another, depends on which end you are looking at I guess. The important thing, I think, is that they are provided with enough habitat. Most people want these elaborately mown lawns that really don't provide cover or necessary food and water for wildlife, and they consider almost everything an intruder. Pets can be a little hard on wildlife also, but I guess we all need company.

I'm sorry to hear about the eggs, Ad. Drat...
Nige, your animal household sounds pretty amusing.
