Happy Easter my fellow creators. Just stopped by with a little Easter gift for everyone. Roanoke is finally finished. I worked on it all day and night today. Now it's off to the beta testers and you should be playing it this week sometime.

I would just like to take  moment here to get sentimental. I know I've been a big pain in the neck over the years, but I would just like to thank everyone for their help and support, especially for dragging me up when I was ready to hit rock bottom. I wouldn't even have finished this game if it wasn't for everyone's support and encouragement and for that I am very grateful. Well that's enough of that now. I'll keep everyone posted as to the release date. Take care for now  Smiley

Great to hear Starlite.  I look forward to playing after beta test.  I can only afford one download with my modem.  We're kind of all in the same boat and you've been an encouragement also.

Happy and successful Easter to you StarLite!  Well done on reaching that finishing line!

There are low points for most of us developing games when one thinks is it worth it, this is a never ending nightmare of issues.

Congrats Starlite!! Well done getting to this point, you've got a lot more staying power than I have!

Fingers crossed the beta run will go smoothly Smiley

Congrats Starlite! That's a great accomplishment.

I have yet to finish a truly playable game myself.

Thank you for the vote of encouragement everyone, but during testing yesterday we ran into a few snags that I hope I can fix today. Heavy Early was testing the game and found that some of the voices didn't work. So when I ran a test found that more than some didn't work. All the on (look) speech in the library didn't work. Man this is maddening. Hopefully it's just a matter of renaming the files and that's it. Keep your fingers crossed once again.

Well I hope that you will get to finish Roanoke especially if you like the music in the first video.

I'm outta here guys to try to get this nightmare over with. Take care

You should see that as a good thing. I almost posted something to say the opposite when NigeC posted, as you shouldn't hope for the beta testing to go smoothly. You should hope for it to find all of the silly, stupid bugs that are hiding in there (there will always be a bunch of those), so that you won't have to deal with them once the game is released. Yes, it's always frustrating to be told about a bug, but it feels really good when they're fixed. Smiley

How right you are Trum. Disaster averted for now. I found the problem thankfully. It seems that some of the voices were saved with the same name and I guess when the engine tried to compensate it couldn't find the voice it was looking for so it put the next similar voice in. It was looking for voice number 60 or 60b and there wasn't one so it put in the next 60 which was the librarian's voice.

Let me tell you, it's a good thing we don't own a gun. It seems that most of the problems were in the library, so they should be fixed now. I hope. I think I'm going to take a vacation when this is done and go for a walk in the park. Ok, well I'm back at it. I'm going to send it to another tester today.  Geez, I just fired up the computer and I'm exhausted already. Take care everyone.  Smiley

Good day fellow creators,

Well one tester is finished his test. There were a few bugs that were fixable thankfully. As soon as they give me the ok, I'll release the game. I am going to try to find a compressor that will compress it for a fast download. For people who do not have fast downloads I will see about breaking up the files for easier download. Well I've got a cup of tea in front of me giving me the stink eye, so I'm going to have at it. Take care everyone  Smiley

Hoorah, StarLite!  Congratulations!  (I'm with Igor on this --- never having finished a game myself, I feel really happy when other people manage it.   Grin)

Good day fellow creators and gamers,

Thank you all for the wonderful warm wishes and encouragement. As my friend Ghostlady said to me once, making games is a love/hate relationship and yesterday was no exception.

You are not going to believe what happened to me. I loaded the engine then went to bring the adv file in to work on it,  and I get an a message saying data non-existent. Of course I panic. So I go into the rooms in the game and everything had disappeared. All the graphics, script everything was gone.

I tried to load the game from the Roanoke.exe file and I get another message dat file non-existent. I tried to bring in my backups and nothing would work. So of course I start freaking out. So hubby says, calm down just delete P&C and re-install it. Thankfully everything came back. So I managed to get finished what I needed to do backed everything up on cd, stick and external hd.

You know it took me about 5 years to work on this game and I think I've aged 10 years. The one tester is finished and the other tester is going to try to finish his test today. If the tester today comes back without any problems, then I'll try to release the game on Monday or else next week some time. What a nightmare.

I can't make up my mind to just go right into Hawk Manor or finish writing all my games. Maybe I'll do a little of both. I started taking a look at Wintermute and given what I've learned in P&C hopefully I can get the hang of the script. Well I'm off to add another few years to my life, keep your fingers and toes crossed that nothing else goes wrong.  Take care everyone  Smiley

nightmare! can't understand why P&C would do that, very odd indeed.
mmm I was thinking about using WM, asked a simple question about the Blender exporter, never got an answer.. so that's gone to the bottom of the list!

I've enjoyed my rather lengthy break, highly recommended lol, so maybe doing some writing might be a bit less stressful? Me personally I'm building content for an idea, if I can keep the style going, I can use it in the game, if not I still have pretty pictures but no commitment also try different engines to see which works best, the plan is to pick one engine and stick with it.. well maybe 2 lol

Anyway I hope it all goes well and I'm looking forward to trying the game Smiley

Sounds rather like paths changed.  One way of getting that would be if something was storing full paths to files which included drive letters, and the drive letters on your system aren't always the same.   Depending on what you have plugged in when you boot that's possible.

Yeah, I wonder if I'll ever learn that one.  I know I could be a lot more productive if I stuck with an engine, but there are just too many to play around with.  Maybe doing all this work on this Flash game will make me settle down to it.  I know I'm into small games and I think Flash kind of fits the bill.
