Hi everyone, I wanted to put some info about my game that I'm currently developing with WME (Wintermute Engine).

"Butterfly" is a dark cyberpunk/s-f story. It takes place in 2099, when almost all remaining humankind has gathered in a dozen huge cities. Each 'Megalopolis' is inhabited by people and androids. The main protagonist (player), John T. Kenner, is an undercover agent who works for one of the big players - a huge corporation, ZEN Technologies. When the prototype chip of advanced AI is stolen from the main lab, he is entrusted with a mission - he has to dive into the deepest, God-forsaken Levels of Megalopolis and regain the loss before the competition lay its hands on it. But in the darkness of the "lower world" John will find something far more precious than the chip and he will be forced to re-evaluate concepts like: "humanity", "honour" and "love".

"Butterfly" features:

- five episodes of interesting (I hope ) and intriguing story;
- lots of information that will help to understand the reality of the world of 2099 - gathered in player's DataBase, a small personal computer John will carry throughout the game;
- two main characters and many NPC's;
- first-person view gameplay
- pre-rendered locations in full 3D, with addition of some particles/animated sprites;
- over twenty short animated cut-scenes + 2 longer animations (intro/outro). Many will have "special effects" (explosions, gun fights, etc.), some will have subtitles. Maybe spoken dialogues in different languages may appear (done by me and some friends - if I manage to convince them Smiley
- a few fast-action sequences (timing will be cruical), including two in virtual reality (or 'Global Net' as it is called in 2099)
- music composed especially for the game by a musician (it's the only thing I can't do myself so I begged the guy Smiley).

The first version of the game will be in Polish (yep, that's my native language) but I will translate it into English as well (I want it to be "international" Wink) English version will be released probably a few weeks after the Polish one.

I do all of this because I always wanted to make a 'real computer game' and to practice my cgi/animating/editing/scripting skills. The game will be freeware and available through its official website. If everything goes according to the plan, "Butterfly" should be available in summer 2009. I will probably release some longer demo earlier, maybe for Christmas. Until then, feel free to check the website (it has English version as well):

Appreciate any comments/questions/threats/critics/blessings Grin

Looks like you've put a lot of work into it.  What are you using for software tools?

This looks really, really cool. The art (my biggest interest) is quite well done, even though I wish there were more concept sketches.

I choose to give blessing from your list of selected options Wink

All software I use is freeware. Entire graphic is done in Blender (3D characters and locations, animations, some effects). "Post-processing" of renders and texture preparation - Gimp, music arranged in Audacity and video in Virtuadub.

I will probably put more into the "package" with the game when it's ready.

That's really great work from Blender.  It must have taken a long time and been a lot of work getting that far.  I dabble in it a little bit.  I'm looking forward to seeing the demo.

^^Agreed! If the gameplay is as good as the art, it should be very good indeed!

Thanks guys Smiley I'm not sure whether I will relese demo "officially", through the website. Probably I will provide a link to the download for those who will be interested. The thing is, that some elements will be added when all episodes are ready, at the end of production process (like music, sound effects, some cut-scenes, final version of GUI) and they won't be present in the demo.

Sorry for the double post but it's been a long time anyway  Wink

For those who are interested: I have changed the appearance of the project's website (http://butterfly.jaroslawkuczek.com) and updated screenshots, cut-scenes + added some design art. As you can see, the game has changed a bit but I think(hope) for the best  Smiley

Cheers.

Recently, project has changed a lot. I dropped 3D graphics - everything is now digitally painted. The game play will also change. BF will remain an adventure game but not an ordinary "point-and-click". All the information will be gradually revealed on an up-dated project website: http//butterflygame.blogspot.com. Every post on the website is now both, in Polish and English.

Some new screenshots can be found on the project's website (more coming soon). Also, the first English interview will appear (courtesy of http://hardydev.com).
