One of the most common gripes about games is their length.  Everyone wants to have a longer game experience and get totally involved for as long as possible, but sometimes that isnt possible.  Developers, both amatuer and professional, often use arbitrary puzzles to extend the length of their games.  These puzzles have little to do with the story or situation and are thrown in simply as random obstacles to impede the player's progress.  In these cases, do you think it would be better to leave the extra puzzles out and focus more on the developers vision, or put the puzzles in creating a stiuation that forces the player to spend more time with the characters of the game?

The best games are always too short, probably because they're so good that you don't want them to end.  Smiley

A game shouldn't be extended with puzzles and obstacles that doesn't fit in with the story, setting or situation. I don't want to play a game that feels like you're running a big list of errands, it destroys the suspension of disbelief.

The vision is more important imho, even more for amateur games as they are mostly short. Length is important, too, though. So go for a good length, but don't do it at the expense of your vision.

If you have ever played a Reality On The Norm game I think they are just right .
You never seem to be wasting time or just there for the puzzles .
I just played the Reality On The Norm: Stuck at Home
by Dylan Downing  and had a great time .wish more games could be like these,
not to hard or to eazy .

To quote and old saying:

It's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it.

Take of that what you will.

If your game's too short,
Post a sequel!
